This week’s Kinstretch online class was a hip and spine-focused session built around improving hip external rotation, active hip control, spinal segmentation, cervical control, and thoracic rotation.
We started with a full CARs sweep from the butterfly base, priming the neck, scapulae, shoulders, spine, knees, and ankles before moving into the deeper work. The main hip focus was hip external rotation (ER), using isometric tension and active hovers to build stronger, more usable range. The butterfly-to-bearsit and longsit-to-straddle transitions added time under tension through the hip flexors, challenging slow control, active range, and the ability to move without relying on momentum or compensation.
We also trained hip internal and external rotation control from the bearsit base, focusing on clean rotational movement through the hip joint while limiting pelvic and spinal cheating.
The second half of the class shifted into spinal extension, flexion/extension segmentation, cervical spine isometrics, and thoracic rotation. We used foam roller positions to explore passive spinal extension and neck flexion/extension strength, then finished with frog-base spinal segmentation and thoracic rotation work to improve how the spine moves segment by segment rather than in stiff blocks.
