Maintain and express your full available joint range with this 10 to 15 minute full-body Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) routine — a slow, deliberate movement practice that takes every major joint through its complete arc of motion, keeping the body capable, resilient, and ready to move well.
Moving through both standing and seated positions, this routine guides each joint — from the neck and shoulders through the spine, hips, knees, and ankles — through its full available range of motion using slow, intentional rotations. Every rotation is performed with maximum irradiation — creating full-body tension to isolate the working joint and ensure the movement is coming from the joint itself, not borrowed from surrounding structures. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is passive. Every circle is earned.
CARs are the foundational movement practice of Functional Range Conditioning. By taking each joint through its complete available range of motion under active muscular control — and doing so consistently — you maintain the joint's current range, stimulate the production of synovial fluid for joint lubrication, preserve the neurological connection between the brain and the joint, and create a daily record of what is and is not available at each joint. Over time, CARs reveal restrictions before they become problems and keep the joints healthy, supple, and fully accessible.
This should feel like a slow, intentional full-body scan — quiet, focused, and deeply connected to each joint in turn. You should feel the working joint moving through its complete arc while the rest of the body holds firm. Some joints will move freely and smoothly. Others will catch, stick, or feel limited in certain directions — these are the areas that need the most attention. There is no pushing through pain. There is no rushing. The goal is awareness, maintenance, and daily investment in your joints. Think of this routine as brushing your teeth for your joints — a non-negotiable daily practice that keeps everything working the way it should.
